Diamond Car Insurance, the women's car insurance provider, have carried out research revealing that 84 per cent of UK drivers are at the wheel of their car for up to eighty minutes a day while commuting to and from their place of work.
This phenomenon only adds to the burden that our sedentary lifestyles are putting on our health.
In association with Diamond, Dr Karianne Wasley Backx has devised an exercise regime that can be practised while drivers are caught in non-moving traffic.
Backx, an exercise and sport physiologist at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff, suggests moving shoulders, stretching arms and clenching and unclenching buttocks as a way to utilise the time spent in your car in a more healthy manner.
A spokesperson from Diamond said, "Sedentary lifestyles are doing nothing for our physical fitness. These exercises are easy to do while you are at a standstill for any length of time and are great for easing stress too."
A CoverGirl spokesperson said, "Our women's car insurance workers have tried out the exercises and we can thoroughly recommend them."
