Womens insurance providers are warning female drivers to be vigilant in cold weather after the violent theft of a car in Berkshire recently.
The woman was scraping frost of her car windscreen between 7.30 and 8am when a man jumped into the Citroen Picasso and drove off.
It is believed that in his attempt to escape, the man ran over the mother and left her lying in the road. She is now being treated for life threatening internal injuries and injury to her arms and legs.
Police officers are urging anyone with any information about the car-jacking to contact Thames Valley Police.
A spokesperson for CoverGirl, the womens insurance specialist, said,
"We advise our customers never to get out of the vehicle with the
keys in the ignition and the engine running. Although it is tempting to
try to heat your car before driving in cold weather, this is an open invitation
for car thieves, some of whom can be violent. We wish this woman a speedy
recovery."
