CoverGirl, the women's insurance provider has learned that a man caught driving without valid car insurance has been warned by a court that he will be jailed if he offends again.
The 22-year-old soldier had forged a car insurance certificate, but when he presented it to police was told that he had made a basic error. He had included the expiry date "31/02/08 at 23.59hrs" a date that doesn't exist, not even in a leap year.
The man had planned to leave the army and become a police officer, but the judge told him, "Your plans to become a policeman are no longer going to be realistic.
"You produced a false document and you had forged it to change the dates to mislead the police and the court. That was a thoroughly dishonest thing to do.
"Driving without insurance is a very serious matter which exposes other people to the risk of injury without compensation in the event of an accident.
"You must realise that you can't drive while uninsured and try to get away with it in this way."
The man had already been convicted on three previous occasions for driving without car insurance and had 18 points on his licence.
He was given a 10 month jail sentence, suspended for two years, and was ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid community work. He was banned form driving for six months.
A CoverGirl spokesperson commented, "As a women's insurance specialist
we provide cheap
car insurance for honest female
drivers. Any motoring conviction on a licence is likely to increase
your premium greatly."
