The main reason behind cheap car insurance for women is that ladies make safer drivers than men. However, research has discovered that there is one type of dangerous driving behaviour to which ladies are more prone than men.
Research by Masterlease revealed that 89% of motorists 'zone out' whilst driving, with more ladies admitting to this than men.
Gavin Jones, risk management expert at Masterlease, explained: "It seems most motorists have experienced it - that feeling when you suddenly realise you can't remember the previous five minutes of your journey."
Masterlease researchers believe that this phenomenon is responsible for up to 40% of road accidents and results in thousands of motor insurance claims each year.
Zoning out often occurs when drivers have something playing on their mind and when they start to think about it, they lose focus on the road. The research found that work was the most common worry, with 60% putting their loss of concentration down to this, while 22% reported they were thinking about their family.
Masterlease believes that zoning out can be prevented by altering the normal conditions that lull drivers into a daze.
Mr Jones went on: "They say that variety is the spice of life and it seems that driving the same route day in, day out plays a huge part in making people's thoughts drift away from the road."
Masterlease suggested that ladies who want to protect their car insurance for women could try a number of tactics, including changing their route to work, keeping their car at a cool temperature and listening to different radio stations.
