In January 2009 a great tumultuous furore hit the UK's motoring press; the identity of Top Gear's The Stig was revealed, allegedly. Here at CoverGirl, the women's car insurance experts, we watch Top Gear and are; mildly amused at their antics, vaguely affronted by their sexism and justifiably outraged by their pro-speed ramblings and anti speed restriction stance on UK roads.
However, we do love their tame racing driver and, though some people say when newspapers try to guess his name a little piece of him dies…all we know is…he's called The Stig!
The Stig is a motoring hero. He drives like a demon, he rarely crashes, he looks great in a jumpsuit and he never utters a word. To be honest there are a lot of people out there who don't want to know who he is, because his mystery is his fascination.
When the identity of the original "Black Stig" became known, he was killed off in a driving stunt that went wrong and his character was reborn as "White Stig".
Speculation amongst motoring media had been rife for some time; seeing various names from the motor racing world bandied about, yet the supposedly definitive revelation, as uttered by The Telegraph, had come from sources that hardly seem concrete. In our car insurance company office, discussion centred on the belief that there is more than one Stig; possibly for different driving techniques or for when Stig 1 is having a bad jumpsuit day.
We have also discussed his cheap car insurance quote and have tried in vain to discover who would provide him with motor cover. But, it is a general consensus that we don't really want to know his identity (the cynics amongst us believe it is just a publicity stunt to facilitate the replacement of White Stig with a new driver – "The Stag" was one suggestion proffered by one of our car insurance workers) and a Top Gear spokesman has said, "We never comment on speculation as to who or what The Stig is."
Cover Girl for women's car insurance, we say, "Give us a female Stig."
And no, we don't think she should be "Pink Stig", we just feel that if the programme wants to appeal to the female driving population out there, they should perhaps embrace gender equality and show the world that women motor racing drivers are just as good as their male counterparts.
You don't have to be "She Stig" to get a cheap car insurance quote from CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, in fact, driving a small car on UK's highways and not on a race track, will probably help you get a really competitive quote.
