A survey carried out by a woman car insurance company has shown that more and more ladies are trying hard to avoid drink driving.
Diamond surveyed 800 female drivers in the UK and found that 73% of women would refuse to drink any alcohol whatsoever if they knew they were going to be driving later.
These survey results reveal a 20% increase in ladies who plan to go tee total if they are driving compared to three years ago, when a similar survey was carried out.
The reason that so many women don't drink at all before driving may well be because they are unsure just how much alcohol will put them over the limit. They err on the side of caution because they don't want to risk getting caught and losing their licence and their cheap woman car insurance rates.
Sian Lewis, managing director of Diamond, said: "What constitutes a unit can be confusing as the range and strength of alcoholic drinks including wine continues to increase."
She added that some ladies may be served glasses of wine that amount to three units in some establishments. She concluded that the only way to be sure of passing a breathalyser test is to pass on alcoholic drinks before driving.
Some people believe that the UK should have a zero tolerance approach to alcohol in the blood when driving, as is the case in some Scandinavian countries, but it is not believed that there are any plans to change the law at this time.
If this were to be introduced in the UK, it is thought that huge numbers of people would be convicted of drink driving, vastly increasing the cost of their motor insurance quotes.
