There are a number of reasons why woman car insurance is so cheap, but the main one is that ladies are safer drivers. Women are much more likely to keep within the speed limit than men and are much less likely to receive convictions for drink driving, dangerous driving and other motoring offences.
However, a new study by the motor insurance company LV= General Insurance has shown that both men and ladies' driving skills can suffer when it comes to motorway driving, even if we do not realise it.
According to LV=, those who hog the middle lane on motorways are most likely to criticise others for the exact same behaviour, whilst people who grudgingly admit to driving too slowly sometimes get hot under the collar when others do just that.
A spokesperson for LV= General Insurance said: "There is a clearly a gap between perception and reality when it comes to motorway driving. It seems the vast majority of people think their driving skills are fine and everyone else is the problem - especially middle-lane drivers who are the most loathed.
"If British motorists became more realistic and tolerant, the roads may be a safer place to drive."
The research also revealed that more ladies (86%) than men (76%) claim to indicate when changing lanes on a motorway. However, as the LV= spokesperson put it, "this is clearly an optimistic perception of reality."
Gemma Turner, of the woman car insurance firm CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, said: "I think anyone who has driven on a motorway will have witnessed some errors by other drivers, and most people would not want to think of themselves as making the same mistakes.
"However, as this study shows, it is all too easy to pick up bad habits so it is worth standing back and taking a look at our own driving sometimes."

*A replacement car can normally be arranged under one of the following conditions: (1) Comprehensive policyholders – a replacement car may be available under the terms of your insurance policy. Please check your policy details for more information. (2) Non fault accident – where we have the name, car registration number and insurance details of the person who caused the accident, we can supply a replacement car. This is done on a credit hire basis which means the costs for this service will be passed onto the insurance company of the person who caused the accident. We may not be able to arrange a replacement car where we are unable to get an admission of liability from their insurance company, or where the driver is untraceable or uninsured. (3) Repair garage – if your car is booked in for repairs following an accident, the repair garage may be able to provide a replacement car (subject to availability).
