A lady risked her woman car insurance by swerving dangerously to avoid what she thought was someone about to drop a missile onto the motorway in front of her - but turned out to be a policeman adjusting a speed camera.
The 42-year-old was travelling on a motorway near Bredbury, Stockport towards Manchester when she noticed someone on a bridge who was holding a large object.
She said: "There's been a few instances of missile throwing from that very bridge. So I swerved out of the way which was dangerous in itself.
"It was only when I looked up again that I realised it was a policeman who seemed to be juggling with a speed camera."
She went on: "This officer was literally dancing on the spot in order, I assume, to angle the camera at any motorist he could get. I don't have a problem with speed cameras, but distracting drivers on an already-dangerous stretch of motorway causes great concern."
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police explained that the camera had been in use in a campaign against drivers who were driving without motor insurance.
Gemma Turner, of the woman car insurance company CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, said: "It is unfortunate that police picked that a bridge which has a history of having missiles dropped from it to do their surveillance work from.
"Luckily there was no collision in this incident, although it seems there is the potential for accidents to be caused."

*A replacement car can normally be arranged under one of the following conditions: (1) Comprehensive policyholders – a replacement car may be available under the terms of your insurance policy. Please check your policy details for more information. (2) Non fault accident – where we have the name, car registration number and insurance details of the person who caused the accident, we can supply a replacement car. This is done on a credit hire basis which means the costs for this service will be passed onto the insurance company of the person who caused the accident. We may not be able to arrange a replacement car where we are unable to get an admission of liability from their insurance company, or where the driver is untraceable or uninsured. (3) Repair garage – if your car is booked in for repairs following an accident, the repair garage may be able to provide a replacement car (subject to availability).
