Woman drivers to enjoy pink parking in Bern
While it is relatively easy for most female drivers to find a woman car insurance company that will provide motor insurance cover at low prices, it is often the case that finding a parking space for their vehicle is not so straightforward.
However, in Bern, Switzerland, authorities have gone so far as to reserve spaces especially for lady drivers. These spaces are not your average spaces, either. They are extra wide, close to the exit of the car park, covered by CCTV, and painted bright pink.
The special car parking spaces began as something intended to improve ladies' personal safety and to protect their woman car insurance policies. However, men thought they looked a bit good, and began nabbing them.
The managing director of a car park in Bern commented: "Legally, we can't stop men from using women's parking spaces. And telling them off didn't work either."
So traffic officials in the city started using a new tactic: make parking in women's spaces so embarrassing for men that most won't have the guts to do it. It is this brainwave which has led to the car parking spaces being painted pink and decorated with flowers and other girly adornments.
