Woman car insurance dodger posed as taxi driver

A Welsh driver has been fined £300 and banned from driving for two months after she was caught using her car as a commercial taxi. The 35-year-old admitted she held no private hire driver licence or valid woman car insurance on the two occasions when she had posed as a legitimate taxi driver.

She was arrested and had her car confiscated in October 2006 as part of a joint operation between Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and South Wales Police, aimed at cracking down on unlicensed vehicle hire in the region.

After the verdict, which saw the woman ordered to pay £100 in prosecution costs on top of the £300 fine for her offences, a spokesman for Rhondda Cynon Taf Council said: "We are working hard to tackle the problem of unlicensed vehicles and drivers trading in certain parts of Rhondda Cynon Taf and we are committed to ceasing such trade."

"Running a taxi service without the proper licence or motor insurance was a serious mistake, and this lady will likely go on paying for it in her woman car insurance premiums for years to come," said a spokesperson for CoverGirl Car Insurance Services.
