Chemist crash threatens 76-year-old woman's car insurance
A 76-year-old from Huntington Beach, California caused chaos at her local chemists when she mistook the accelerator pedal for the brake and ploughed through the plate glass frontage of the store.
Substantial damage was done to the Drug Emporium shop front, both by the lady's runaway vehicle and the fire crews who pulled her to safety - and her woman car insurance company could well be picking up the tab.
"This was not a very serious incident, but it very easily could have been,' said a spokesman for the fire department. "If there had been someone in the store at the time of the accident, this would have been a different story."
Fortunately, some of the force of the impact may have been absorbed by a display of foam drinks coolers, which witnesses say were shredded beyond recognition.
"I'm glad nobody was injured - but I don't envy this lady's chances of getting a cheap motor insurance quote anytime soon," said Gemma Turner, spokesperson for the woman car insurance specialists at CoverGirl Car Insurance Services.
