Car insurance for women is typically cheaper because of ladies' excellent reputation for safe driving. However, this cannot be said for all female drivers - and one in particular from Bury, Lancashire.
The woman, who was driving a blue Peugeot, relentlessly tailgated a man who gestured that she should not be using a mobile phone while at the wheel. She followed him around Bury for several miles, all the while flashing her headlights and driving very close to his car.
The man, 53, felt so unnerved by her driving that he got out of his car at some traffic lights and confronted her. He then resumed his journey with the woman driver tailing him all the way.
He stopped again and popped into a nearby house, then returned to his car once again only to find that the Peugeot was again behind him. He pulled over to try to resolve the situation and was surprised to see that another vehicle, a Ford Ka, had stopped immediately in front of his car.
The driver of the Ka proceeded to leap out of his vehicle, open the victim's car door and punch him in the face. He was left with injuries requiring numerous stitches, whilst the drivers of the Peugeot and Ford drove off.
Police described the incident as being possibly due to 'phone rage'.
Lee-Anne Bass, of car insurance for women company CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, commented: "This is a quite incredible story. It is hard to imagine why the female driver reacted so aggressively in the first place, as driving with a mobile phone is illegal and dangerous.
"It seems likely that given this attitude, the woman will struggle to find a cheap car insurance deal for quite a while if she is caught and convicted."
