When it comes to driving, mums are best and if the cheaper car insurance rates for women are anything to go by, then these results revealed by Hyundai's survey are probably true.

The findings came from a survey that questioned 1000 school children on who they thought were better drivers? and who they would prefer to pick them up from school. A whopping 60% of school children prefer their mums to collect them compared with only 30% choosing their dads.

Sgt Tom O'Brien from London police said, "Mums are more courteous, let other drivers in front of them, are nicer to pedestrians and bicyclists and don't yell."

This summoned up the common complaints amongst the children. The children complained that their dads drive too fast and shout at other motorists more than their mums do. Mums are also more likely to keep children happy by chatting to them and are less likely to get road rage.

However, as the children reach driving age, mums are no longer so popular. A study by the AA driving school revealed that young drivers would much rather practice their driving with dad than with mum. Over half of those surveyed favoured their dads perhaps due to the tendency for mums to panic more.

However, both parents were found to be guilty of stamping their foot on an imaginary brake, swearing, making the driver pull over, shutting their eyes in terror and grabbing the arm rest for safety while instructing.

Although the AA encourages parents to take their young drivers out practising, they emphasise that it should in no way replace proper driving lessons with a certified instructor and driving sessions with parents should be aimed at increasing the child's driving experience.
