As the height of fashionistas' heels goes up, so does the amount of pain they have to endure and, as a consequence, a new cosmetic procedure has evolved to deal with the excruciating problem of killer heels.

For around £300 you can now get a "foot-filler" jab; an injection of Botox into the balls of your feet to cure the condition known as "stilettotarsal" – caused by year after year of foot abuse from high heels.

The injection is said to protect the nerves and soft tissue in the ball of the foot, thereby making walking in your heels a more comfortable affair. However, Michael O'Neill, Consultant Podiatric Surgeon from the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, advises that getting behind the wheel straight away would not be advisable. It may also contravene your car insurance.

O'Neill said, ""With this kind of extreme procedure, a number of dermal fillers would need to be injected into the foot to plump up the metatarsals. Numbness would last for up to 24 hours and we firmly suggest that you shouldn't drive for at least three days after such a treatment due to loss of feeling in the foot.

"The rule is ‘you can't drive until you can hop five times on a foot' - ensuring you can put the foot down on a pedal without hesitation, which is crucial if you need to make an emergency stop."
