Research has revealed that many people are unaware of the extent to which men are responsible for dangerous driving, according to The Telegraph.
The Green Flag and Brake survey found that 46% of people thought men were more likely to be dangerous on the roads than women.
Many of those surveyed would have been taken aback to find out that a massive 97% of people convicted of dangerous driving are male, which is part of the reason why women's car insurance is so much cheaper than men's.
However, AA Motor Insurance has revealed that the danger presented by female and male motorists is something which is based largely on age.
He said: "At the beginning, up to the age of about 25, a young man is much more likely to kill or injure himself than a young woman.
"But as they get more experienced you find that there is little difference between men and women. By the time drivers reach the age of 40, they have the same risk profile as each other."
Lee-Anne Bass, spokesperson for the women's car insurance company CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, commented: "I would certainly agree that, on the whole, ladies pose much less of a risk on the roads than men, and this is certainly borne out in the statistics regarding dangerous driving convictions."
