In the UK, we have 'Pink Ladies,' the woman-only taxi service that was launched in Warrington in 2005. In Iran, ladies are celebrating the recent announcement of an equivalent taxi service - 'The Ladies' Safe Trips.'
Not only does being driven around by a lady make you less likely to be involved in an accident (just ask woman car insurance companies for proof of that), but it is also a much more comfortable environment for Iranian women.
On public transport in Iran, men and ladies are completely segregated. However, in taxis, Iranian ladies and men have to sit close together, which causes many to feel very uncomfortable.
This has prompted Iran to set up the woman-only taxi service. Only married women will be employed by the taxi firm and they will only be allowed to drive other ladies around Tehran.
A female driver from The Ladies' Safe Trips said: "My main motivation for driving in this company is to create security for other women who have to sit stressfully in taxis."
Lee-Anne Bass, of the UK woman's car insurance company CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, commented: "I think lady-only taxi services are a great idea as they can provide better safety for their passengers.
"If ladies in Iran have as good a driving record as those in the UK, I bet the female drivers' insurance premiums are pretty low too."
