Research reveals possible link between women's modest attitudes and car insurance rates

Shell V-Power has revealed that ladies are much more modest than men when it comes to rating their driving skills, which could be the reason why women's car insurance is so cheap.

When surveyed, 50% of female motorists rated themselves as being "good drivers" and "very confident" compared to 75% of men.

However, according to a psychologist, ladies' self-effacing attitudes could be the reason behind their much lower accident rates.

He said: "The problem is that some men may be over confident in their driving ability and this can give rise to greater risk taking.

"By considering themselves to be superior drivers, some men think they are not at risk. However, official statistics show that men are involved in more accidents than women."

This ties in well with other research, which has found ladies are much less likely to claim on their motor insurance policies than men, thus preserving the low cost of women's car insurance premiums.
